About Project Performance

Built on
real
coaching.

Good coaching is straightforward — understand what someone needs, build a plan around it, and support them properly. Different ages, different abilities, different goals. The principles don’t change. But what you’re capable of does.

Ian Mellor — Founder & Head Coach

Over 20 years.
Still doing it
properly.

Ian started training at 15. Not because someone told him to — he just got into it at school and it stuck. By 17 he was qualified as a fitness instructor, and by 18 he had his personal training qualification. He has been doing this ever since.

Before Morzine, he worked in some of the top gyms in the UK and spent time in Australia running a facility with over 4,000 members. That experience taught him a lot — about how gyms work, but more importantly, about how people work. Every client is different. Every goal is different. The job is to figure out what that person actually needs, not just hand them a generic plan and wave them off.

He has been in Morzine for 12 years now, and Project Performance has been running since 2019. In that time he has coached week in, week out — in person, through injury seasons, through lockdowns, and online with clients spread across the world. The business has grown and the team has grown with it, but the approach hasn’t changed.

The goal was never to build the flashiest gym or shout the loudest online. It was to build something that actually works for the people who come through the door — or open the app.

The approach

Longevity over
punishment.

There’s a version of fitness coaching that’s about making people hurt — flooring them every session, maximising discomfort, treating exhaustion as a sign of success. That’s not what we do here.

The goal is to challenge you at the right level for where you are right now. Not what someone else can do, not what you could do five years ago. Where you are today.

That means sessions that are progressive, not random. It means understanding that some weeks you’re running on empty and the plan should account for that. And it means thinking about what your body can keep doing in five years, not just what it can survive this week.

That approach works whether you’re a complete beginner, training for a ski season, managing a health condition, or navigating something like menopause. The principles are the same — the application is different for every person.

Challenged, not crushed

Every session should leave you feeling like you’ve worked hard. Not like you’ve been broken. There’s a difference, and we know where that line sits.

Progressive, not random

Sessions are structured to build on each other. Nothing is thrown in just to make it harder. Everything has a purpose.

Built around you

Your goals, your starting point, your life. The programme fits around what you’re actually trying to achieve — not a template someone else is following.

Long-term thinking

We’re not interested in results that last six weeks. The aim is to build habits, strength, and confidence that stick — and that your body can sustain.

Experience

Coached across
the board.

Over two decades, the client list has been broad. That range of experience shapes how every new person who comes through is approached — because very few situations are genuinely new.

The gym

The Morzine
Gym.

Project Performance is based at the Palais des Sports in Morzine — and it looks a lot different now to when we first walked in. Since 2019, the space has been built up and improved to the point where it works properly as a dedicated gym.

It’s not a commercial gym where you’re left to figure it out on your own. It’s a coaching environment, set up for the kind of small group and 1-2-1 training we do, with the equipment to match.

The coaching team

The people
behind the sessions.

Project Performance is more than one person. Group sessions are covered by a team of coaches, each with their own background, specialisms, and approach. Ian leads all online coaching personally, but in person, you’re in safe hands whoever’s on the floor.
